Geart Aeilco Wumkes

Geart Aeilco Wumkes or G.A. Wumkies was a Protestant Frisian language Bible translator and historian. Born on 4 September 1869 in Huzum and died on 7 May 1954. G. A. Wumkies was a Preacher of the Dutch Reformed Church.

Major work

The major work was the translation of the Bible in Frisian with the New Testament (Frisian: Nije Testamint) published in 1933 and the Old Testament (Frisian: Alde Testamint) in 1943. The Old Testament was completed with the help of E B Folkertsma. The complete Bible (Frisian: Bibel) published in 1943.

Other translations

In 1953 he translated John Bunyan's famous book The Pilgrim's Progress into Frisian: De Pylgerreize.
