Gaston Hardy

Gaston Hardy (April 22, 1917 – July 15, 1977) was a local politician in Shawinigan, Quebec. He was the 13th Mayor of Shawinigan from 1954 to 1957.[1]
He was born in 1917 in Portneuf, Quebec and once lived at 1512, rue Saint-Joseph in the Saint-Marc neighborhood.
He ran for mayor in 1954 and won, but when his proposal of a merger with Shawinigan-Sud was defeated by a majority of the council members he resigned. Armand Foucher succeeded him and finished his unexpired term.
Hardy was the Union Nationale candidate in the district of Saint-Maurice in the 1956 and the 1960 elections. Each time he lost against incumbent MLA René Hamel. He died at Shawinigan in 1977.
Rue Hardy in the Shawinigan-Nord neighborhood was named to honor him.
