Gary Yap

Gary Yap (Chinese: 叶俊岑; pinyin: Yè Jùncén born 15 January 1977) is a Malaysian television personality and a host on Star Search talent quest.

Career

Gary Yap was schoolmates with fellow Star Search contestant and actor Zhang Yaodong.^[1][2]

Gary went to Singapore in 2001 to pioneer his career as an interpreter.

He represented Malaysia while participating in the finals of "Star Search", a television program hosted by the New Media Results Malaysia Male Champions' Trophy. Afterward, Gary stayed on board with new media as a drama series actor and presenter and is now host of 8TV's 8 E-News, a famous entertainment program.

This Malaysian television presenter and singer is usually working in Malaysia's Television broadcast studio. As hosts of the Entertainment Information Program "8 E-News", sponsored by Primeworks Studios, New Media Private Limited, Gary has made the program the success it is today. This entertainment information show is broadcast live every Monday through Friday afternoon, reporting and sharing information about Chinese artists and entertainment news. Gary also often connects with the lucky people who successfully called in. When the people give the correct answers to the questions he asks, he sends prizes and sometimes even free overseas travel arrangements and concert tickets to see the famous singer. Gary also has already greatly increased work and success of others. While Gary hosts the program two or three days a week, the other four presenters take turns presiding on the remaining days. Aside from Chinese artists' entertainment, 8 E-News features Korean and Japanese artists' entertainment news one day each week.

Gary has also been requested to host a new program, Hot Chef, and the second season of the singing talent contest 'Ultimate Power Group'. Due to this, Gary shares the spotlight of 8 E-News with his other four colleagues and co-hosts.

2004–2006

"Camp in Malaysia" was the name of the new television 8 TV Channel. Gary took advantage of the opportunities for work, joining 8 TV. Afterwards, Gary was signed on as a personal moderator of the 8 E-News TV program.

In 2005, Singapore's Chinese singing talent show, "Project Superstar", broadcasts. Gary was host of this popular entertainment program through all three seasons the show aired.

In 2006, Malaysia's version of Chinese singing talent show "Project Superstar" began shooting and was also hosted by Gary. The idol drama produced by the Eight Dimensions Star said, "and finally return to the interpretation of the world." Gary is a famous host of entertainment programs, so he was greatly encouraged to debut a music album.

In 1 September 2006, Gary debuted his first personal album, "Yearning", produced by Nimbus Productions. This album is a collection of 10 Chinese songs, one Malaysian song, and two music videos. However, before he made films in 2005, he had two honorary mentions for top ten performers of the Great Leap Forward Award and top ten singers of the Excellence Award presentation ceremony.

Gary 2006's "care" successfully issued a debut album, he did not let others love to sing, love music, and also want the hair piece singers saw his pride and glory, because the most important thing to your own album to ask a good result, the album sold more than is equal to that they are not a very successful singer. Gary a first album, when record companies are also very hard for him to carry on the album promotion to start running journeys and let everyone know he succeeded his singer's identity. 2007–2008

Gary continued his presence on 8 E-News and the second season of Project Superstar. On 1 October 2007, Gary launched his second album, "Restart", only one year after his first. Gary proclaimed that he had spent almost sixty thousand ringgit in order to produce the album. In it "Allows You Fly" is the first hit song, is both te boys and girls are able to play song, the second hit song is "U Get A Life" sounding tracks, the third nice song is a song of dance, called "Hot Pot Frog." The album also recorded 3 fast songs, that is, "Clown With Dog", "Write Round Eyes" and "Goodbye Cinderella". After Gary's Restart album was released, he also organized several activities to this album autograph session, but the students from that time is timely run into the grade exactly exams every time, so there are several stations Autograph scene showed that his supporters was not much so his Restart album which was held in October appeared on a cold field in several stands. After Gary finished his first wave of Restart album publicity, he was immediately invest back to produce a drama called "Voice induction" of shooting and the preparation of the third seasons of Project Super Star to work quickly, the busy situation also simply doing Gary's album promotion was not performing better and it also made him feel a little unworthy of himself and the fans. Until ends 2007, due to a lot of missed exam candidates and some lovely fans before was again kindly posted messages constantly to Gary via e-mail to ask him kindly can have a few stations for his new album promotion again or not, so record companies decided again to set a north and south tour for Gary to have a second wave of organized a "Happiness Success Celebration Album song Singing Signing." Where the friends who go to the site to support Gary, they were in addition to have a special purchase can be successful to have the album CD DVD, amd was also have a large stunning new limited edition album poster and his first album, vowing you can or not resist his charm ! The destinations that Gary went by this time was Alor Setar, Sungai Petani, Penang, Butterworth, Ipoh, Melaka, Batu Pahat and so on.

In 2008, according to Gary, the Restart album was symbolic accomplishing his life goals and dreams and perhaps the last time he would launch an album. However, he continued working hard on his music and two years later he had a breakthrough, his dream never being broken. His 'Restart' music album was very popular throughout the year 2008. Later on Gary continued his roles on 8 E-News and the third season of Project Superstar.

2009

In 2009, Gary began hosting a new singing talent show, "Ultimate Power Group". This new talent show is the first to produce the best group singers in Malaysia. All the participants of the show must sing in groups.

Gary continued his great success in music, launching a third album on 1 August 2009, "Courageous Love". With this album, Gary produced five hit songs and 3 music videos. The destinations that Gary went by this time was Perai Butterworth, Bukit Mertajam, Taiping, Alor Star, Melaka, Johore, and the capital's site, included The Mines, Selayang and Klang. Gary has also already gone to the newly opened shopping mall in the capital that time, Brem Mall.

2010–2011

Throughout 2010 and 2011, Gary continued hosting the second season of Ultimate Power Group singing show. Afterwards, he presided over a Hot Chef Boys' cooking and talent show. In October, a common theme with news events became "world environmental protection is everyone's responsibility". On 1 November 2010, Gary also jumped on the environmental protection bandwagon by producing "War E" EP, which contained three environmental tracks and two music videos.

By this time Gary debuts a new album, he is still travelling throughout Northern and Southern Malaysia for publicity. Gary is quite to popular music icon with the Northern and Southern youth, who support him, rooting and cheering for him. This environmental music album remained popular throughout the whole 2011 year. The destinations Gary visited this year were Penang, Perai Butterworth, Batu Pahat, Johor Bahru, Taiping, Alor Setar and the capital.

In 2011, Gary took part of an old society drama in the beginning of the year. After that, the singing program he hosted every year once again changed from "Ultimate Power Group" to "Ultimate Power Star". The new show layout allows for both solo and group participants to participate.

Gary's latest endeavor is the marriage planning program, "Happiness Task", which broadcasts in June.

2012

The new singing talent show he hosted again changed to "Ultimate Power Song." After 1 September, he again released his fourth album, "Love or Not" (New Songs + Best Selection), this album he set red for main color. Gary has also already gone to the newly opened shopping mall in Sungai Petani, Kedah, named Aman Jaya Mall and the hottest place in Bukit Mertajam, called Auto City for album publicity.

Awards

Gary first came to prominence in 2001 as the Malaysian male champion of Star Search Singapore and was awarded a contract with MediaCorp. He was also a member of the five boy group band, PEACE. He returned to Malaysia in 2004, due to disagreements with the new manager and signed with 8TV.^[3] Yap has since hosted various programs on 8TV and ntv7. He was voted the most popular TV host at the 2010 Golden Awards.
