Garth Hill College (also Garth Hill and Garth) is a technology college in Bracknell, England, it was formed in 1956 and is on the same site as the Wick Hill Centre, a college linked with the school. It was created as Garth Hill School (a Comprehensive) in September 1969 from an amalgamation of Wick Hill Secondary Modern School (opened 1956) and neighbouring Garth Grammar School (opened 1965), the name of the latter referring to a former local fox hunt. The school underwent a £40 million rebuild in 2010, opened by HRH Princess Anne the same year.
Past students include Adrian Williams the former Reading and Wales footballer, currently a sports presenter with Radio Berkshire, and Daniela Relph a Royal Affairs Correspondent with the BBC. The current principal is Mr K G Grainger.
The college is split into 4 houses - Brownlow, Lawrence, Haversham and Fielden. They are all named after key figures who have helped the town of Bracknell, where the school is located, in some way, for example Charles Brownlow, who built Brownlow hall in the Warfield area. Each house also represents a subject group. Brownlow represents science and technology (Daniella Relph), Lawrence - language and communications, Fielden - Maths & information studies and Haversham - Physical, creative and moral studies.
The college has recently incorporated the use of Vivo miles reward system, I am learning.com and Frog learning platform. They have also introduced a Pupil learning partner scheme, which includes students years 7 - 12. The pupil learning partners asess teachers lessons using some of the ofsted criteria, and it is a scheme commonly used in secondary schools, providing a pupil opinion of teaching methods to improve the overal quality of learning, although the name varies in different areas.
