"Gangsta Boy" is a K-Pop song of synthpop music genre performed by the South Korean-Chinese artist idol group f(x). The song was included as a track in the group's first studio album Pinocchio which was released on April 20, 2011 under the record label of S.M. Entertainment and distributed by KMP Holdings.[1] The song was chosen as one of the promotional singles from the album alongside the title track "Pinocchio (Danger)" and the finishing track "Lollipop".

Production and background

According to the album description on the South Korean music portal site Naver Music, the lyrics of "Gangsta Boy" talk about the 'nice and adorable teen girl's candid yet daring confession to her gangsta boy'.[2] The song also happens to mark the first time the Danish music producers and songwriters Thomas Troelsen and Mikkel Remee Sigvardt collaborated with f(x), although they had previously worked on numerous occasions with other fellow label-mate artists belonging under the umbrella of the agency S.M. Entertainment. They went on to produce f(x) next hit single "Hot Summer".[3][4] Hong Ji Yoo also helped in writing the lyrics for the song who also penned the lyrics for "Lollipop" another song on the album.[5]

Live performances

The group performed "Gangsta Boy" on various domestic music shows that were broadcast live, such as M.net's M! Countdown on April 28, 2011.[6] They also performed it live during Y-Star Live Power Music concert on June 5, 2011.[7] "Gangsta Boy" was included in the set-list for the stages of SMTown Live '10 World Tour concerts in Paris, France on June 10 and 11, 2011. The girls also went on to perform their song along with their hit lead single "Pinocchio (Danger)" during the annual music awards show MBC's Gayo Daejejeon which was held on December 31, 2011.[8]
