Energy
GVK’s energy portfolio comprises CCPP (gas/naphtha-based), thermal (coal-based) and hydro power plants. Besides over 900 MW operational power plants, it has around 5000 MW projects under various stages of construction and development.
Projects under operation
- 217 MW Jegurupadu CCPP Phase 1 (India’s first IPP), set up in 1997 in Andhra Pradesh.[4]
- 228 MW Jegurupadu CCPP Phase 2, an expansion of Phase 1, commenced operations in 2009.[4]
- 469 MW Gautami CCPP Phase 1, Andhra Pradesh commenced operations in 2009.[4]

Resources
Coal
Australia: GVK has acquired 79% stake each in Alpha Coal and Alpha West Coal mines and 100% stake in Kevin’s Corner mines in Queensland, Australia for US$1.26 billion with total resources of about 8 billion tonne and a capacity of about 85 million tonne per annum. When combined, these projects will create one of the largest coal mining operations in the world. GVK has also acquired 100% stake in the 500 km rail line and up to 80 million tonne per annum port as part of the ‘pit-to-port’ logistics solution. The project envisages a total investment of US$10 billion. This acquisition was awarded as “Asia Deal of the Year” and “Asia Outbound Investor of the Year” at the 8th Asia Mining Awards 2012, Singapore. GVK has received all relevant approvals pertaining to mine, rail and port project from both State and Federal Govt. GVK Hancock and Aurizon have partnered to further the development of rail and port infrastructure for opening up of the Galilee Basin reserves. GVK Hancock has appointed Thiess as preferred mine operations contractor for developing the Alpha Coal project in Galilee Basin.

India:The coal mines at the Tokisud North Sub-Block and Seregarah Block in Jharkhand are being developed to cater to the requirements of upcoming Goindwal Sahib Thermal Power Project, Punjab.
Oil and Gas: GVK has partnered with BHP Billiton, one of the world’s largest diversified natural resource companies in the exploration of 7 deep water oil blocks of about 35000 km2 off the west coast of India. GVK is carrying out extensive study of existing seismic data and would also gather new 3D seismic API in priority areas for the exploration of new hydrocarbon resources in these blocks. .[11]
Airports
India
GVK’s foray into the aviation sector began with the modernization of Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) in Mumbai. Further, with the acquisition of 43% stake in the Kempegowda International Airport(KIA) in Bengaluru. GVK became one of the largest airport operators in the country handling a combined traffic of about 44 mppa at these two airports. Both these airports are performing well and have won many accolades - CSIA being rated the third best airport globally for the second consecutive year in 25-40 mppa category for 2012 and KIA being Asia-Pacific’s first airport and world’s second to be certified in Business Continuity Management Systems.[12][13][14]
Indonesia
GVK has collaborated with Airports Authority of Indonesia, AP1 for operations, management and development of commercial facilities at Denpasar International Airport, Bali. GVK will also develop an international greenfield airport in Yogyakarta, Central Java. .[15][16][17]
Transportation
Roads:
GVK’s road portfolio includes 4 major projects, under various stages of construction and development. Jaipur-Kishangarh Expressway, Rajasthan, the first privately operated six-lane road project with 542.4 lane km has received national and international accolades for its quality and timely execution and excellent operational and maintenance standards. GVK’s other projects include:
a. Deoli - Kota Expressway (332.16 lane km), Rajasthan
b. Bagodara - Vasad Expressway (611.4 lane km), Gujarat
c. Shivpuri - Dewas Expressway (1329.84 lane km), Madhya Pradesh

GVK has signed an MoU with the Govt of Gujarat to develop a greenfield port at Okhamadi.
Hospitality
GVK has established itself as a premium hospitality leader with six TAJGVK properties in Hyderabad, Chandigarh and Chennai having a total key base of 1093. These include Taj Krishna, Taj Deccan, Taj Banjara and Vivanta by Taj in Hyderabad, Taj Chandigarh in Chandigarh and Taj Clubhouse in Chennai. GVK is also setting up hotel projects in the cities of Mumbai and Bengaluru.

GVK Biosciences is Asia’s leading Contract Research Organization (CRO) employing more than 2000 talented scientists, support and analytical staff. From Discovery to Development, GVK BIO offers support at various phases of research including Analytical Services, Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Research, Clinical Pharmacology, Informatics and Process Research & Contract Manufacturing.
Sustainability
GVK is a socially responsible and an environmentally conscious organization. It undertakes all infrastructure projects with a commitment to minimize ecological impact. It runs various social initiatives through GVK Foundation which provides emergency response services, education, housing, health and hygiene and community based programs etc. for underprivileged people. The GVK EMRI (108 emergency response number) with around 25,000 employees attends to every emergency situation; be it a medical crisis, law and order situation or a fire disaster. This service is spread across fourteen states and 2 UTs and runs 6000 ambulances catering to over 700 million people and saving lakhs of lives. GVK has partnered with AP Police Deptt to develop an integrated emergency response service mechanism through a unique initiative called “Project Dial 100”.
GVK has been associated with a lot of Social activities. It is known to have taken all infrastructure projects with a minimal ecological impact. GVK implements its CSR initiatives through GVK Foundation which has extended initiatives in areas like providing emergency response services, housing for under-privileged people, education, health and hygiene, community-based programs, empowerment and entrepreneurship development, arts, music, sports and a number of other socio-economic activities. GVK’s CSR initiatives include:
- Proving housing facilities to 1000 underprivileged people in Kothur village of Nellore in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
- Setting up of a tennis academy in Hyderabad to promote the sport in the country.[20]
- Setting up a degree college at Indukurpet village in Nellore District of Andhra Pradesh which offers education to students from the surrounding areas.[21] The GVK Foundation also sponsors and provides scholarships for students across various disciplines.

- Suryakumari Abrham Memorial Foundation for purchase of modern sewing machines and computers.

GVK EMRI
The GVK EMRI (108 emergency response number) is service that attends to every emergency situation, such as medical crisis, law and order situation or a fire disaster. This service is spread across 14states and 2 Union Territories with over 29,000 employees.[22] It runs 6,000 ambulances in a Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreement with state governments across India and caters to over 700 million lives.[23]

Carbon Emission Reduction
- GVK Power & Infrastructure Limited leads Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI) for utility sector in CDP-13.
- GVK KIA successfully upgrades its Airport carbon accreditation certification to Level 3 Optimisation, a major landmark in GVK’s sustainability initiatives.
- GVK Power & Infrastructure Ltd. has been ranked 2nd in the country across all sectors for its Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI).[29]
- GVK CSIA, Mumbai has been awarded the globally recognized Airport Carbon Accreditation for 2012-13 by Airport Council International (ACI)for its pioneering Carbon Footprint Management system and processes implemented.[30]
- Various GVK Projects are eligible for carbon credits under Clean Development Mechanism.
- Bengaluru International Airport is one of the first Indian airports which has migrated its ground vehicles operation to Biofuel (supplied by Karnataka State Biofuel Development Board) with an objective to enhance energy efficiency and reduce carbon footprint.[31]
- GVK CSIA, Mumbai is the first Indian and the second Asian airport to be accredited the prestigious ISO 14064-1:2006 certification for its Carbon Emissions Accounting by Bureau Veritas, a global leader in carbon certification worldwide.[32]
- GVK CSIA is the first airport in India to voluntarily and proactively initiate its carbon footprint mapping process.[33]
- The World Environment Foundation has recognized GVK KIA to become the first airport to win the Golden Peacock Award for their excellent work on environmental management.[34]
Recognition for green initiatives
- GVK KIA wins the 'Most Innovative Environmental Best Practice Award – 2013' at CII-Environmental Best Practices Award. The GVK BIA team also bagged the "Most useful Project Presentation" award at the event chosen by close to 75 participants through voting at the forum.
- GVK KIA received a Special Outstanding Award for Best maintained Gardens at the recent Landscape garden competition organized by Mysore Horticultural Society
- Jegurupadu CCPP has been rated as ‘Eco Star Gold’ by TERI.[35]
- Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board recognized the Jegurupadu plant for outstanding contribution to the development of the Eco Park.[36]
- The Bangalore airport (GVK KIA) has won the prestigious Water Award for outstanding work in water management and sustainability at the Bangalore Water Summit 2012.[37]
- GVK KIA has won the “Most Innovative Environmental Best Practice Award” – 2012.[38][39]
- KIA has won the CII Southern Region for Excellence Award in Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) best practices-2012.[39]
- CSIA, Mumbai and Kempegowda International Airport, Bangalore have been awarded Airport Carbon Accreditation by the Airport Council International (ACI). MIAL has received the level 1 mapping certification and KIA has received level 2, becoming the first Airport in Asia-Pacific to cross this milestone.[40]
