Early life

Jones was born in York, North Yorkshire,[1] and brought up in Thorpe Willoughby.[13] He attended Selby High School where he left with 11 GCSE's [14] before going on to study a BTEC National Diploma in Sports Development and Fitness at Calderdale College when he signed for Halifax Town A.F.C. [15]

U19s Youth Team player, Jones signed for the club in September 2006,[15] representing the Youth Team in both The Football Conference Youth Alliance and The FA Youth Cup,[16] going on to have trials at Stockport County F.C., Doncaster Rovers and Mansfield Town F.C., which lead to being featured in the popular football magazine FourFourTwo.[17][18]

He later became a student at Hull University where he established the Gérard School of Football,[19] growing the company into becoming recognized as one of the Top 100 Best Business Start-ups in the UK for 2010.[11][17][20][21]

Following on from this, he became a Director of Arsenal Soccer Schools in East Yorkshire, with Arsenal Football Club announcing the opening of Arsenal Soccer Schools in East Yorkshire and the Humber with help from Gérard School of Football who worked in partnership with Arsenal to provide professional football coaching to boys and girls.[4][5]

Since Gerard School of Football, Jones has gone on to establish a coach education and player development company called Premier Skills in Yorkshire,[8] a company which John Cartwright (footballer), former Arsenal First Team Coach co-founded with Roger Wilkinson, former New Zealand FA Director of Coaching to develop innovative, great coaches and greater players.[25]
