Francisco Albano Barrio (born Buenos Aires, Argentina, June 22, 1989), commonly known as Croata Barrio, is a Croatian-Argentinian mixed martial artist and Greco-Roman wrestler. Barrio grew up in Zagreb, Croatia, he was in the Argentinian national wrestling team at 2005 to 2012, and now fighting profesional mixed martial arts and signed for the best and the fastest growing martial arts promotion in Europe, Final Fight Championship .[1]

Greco-roman Wrestling career

He was born on 22 June 1989 in Buenos Aires, Argentina and lived there until 1994, then he moved to Croatia At age of seven, he was interested in the sport, so he practiced various disciplines. At seven, he became involved in wrestling. He began train in Lokomotiva Wrestling Club, Zagreb. He started to win tournaments, which led to participating in national championships, and then in international events. In Croatia gained experience by competing regularly with fighters from different countries in Europe, standing as a fighter with great potential. At seventeen he returned with his family to their home country, Argentina. where he continued with the training activities. He has managed several victories both locally and internationally, Multiple Argentine champion in the junior and senior categories, being undefeated in the 66 kg category. He excelled in international competitions such as the Pan American and South American, making three medals in the first tournament and two in the second.

Barrio competed in the Olympic Wrestling trials in ahead of the 2012 games in London where he lost by points on a close fight against Wuileixis Rivas, the winner of that fight classified directly to the Olympic Games.

He competed in various international tournaments in America, Asia and Europe.[1]

Francisco racked up over 100 wins in all his Greco-Roman Wrestling career.

He competed in Croatian Wrestling League, in -74 kg weight category, on 12 October 2013 while preparing for his Final Fight Championship debout. In 2nd league round he scored victory for Lokomotiva Wrestling Club, same club where he made first wrestling steps.[2]

Mixed martial arts career

Francisco Barrio debut in mixed martial arts in the lightweight division, on July 14, 2012 at Real Combat Conviction and win in 0:51sec by Submission (Rear-Naked Choke). Barrio currently trains at the Pana Wrestling Team and Nova União Team in Buenos Aires.

On October 20, 2012 Francisco win Alexander Ceballos via Submission (keylock).[1]

On May 25, 2013, The Croata win Esteban Zuñiga via TKO in first round.[1]

On June 27, 2013, Croata signed to Europe's biggest MMA promotion Final Fight Championship. FFC website features a profile of the Croatian/Argentinian fighter added to the already strong fight card for the upcoming FFC08.[1]

Francisco won in his Final Fight Championship debut by unanimous decision against Darko Banović.[3]

Personal life

Francisco is the son of the popular Croatian Brigadier Rodolfo Barrio Saavedra who was in the Croatian Army and very actively involved in the Croatian War of Independence, and idol to many Croatian for help Croatia in the Independence war. Francisco became known popular throughout Croatia, being named on several occasions by the Croatian popular magazines about his private life and have a lot of media attention because he is one of the most exciting local fighters for the Croatian people.[1][1]
