The Fortaleza Metro, MetroFor (Portuguese: Metrô de Fortaleza, commonly called Metrofor) is the 43 kilometres (27 mi) rapid transit system for the city of Fortaleza.[1] The system began operation on October 24, 2012.[citation needed]

Its lines have roots in the old system of the Brazilian Company of Urban Trains (CBTU) in Fortaleza, which were adapted to service the new underground. The system has 28 stations: 18 on the south line[1] and 10 on the west line[1] beyond the central station. With the opening of a new metro line currently under construction, 14 more stations will be added, three of which are underground.

The rolling stock is similar to that used on the Circumvesuviana railway, in Italy.

Tunnel boring machines for the construction were provided by The Robbins Company.[2]
