Florencia Martina Habif (born on August 22, 1993) is an Argentine Field Hockey Player.[1] Being part of Argentina's Junior National Team "Las Leoncitas" ("The Baby Lionesses") since 2009 and of the National Team "Las Leonas" ("The Lionesses") since 2010, she competed in several tournaments, including the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, where the team achieved the Silver Medal, being the team's youngest player.[2] Florencia Habif is also a player in the club Gimnasia y Esgrima de Buenos Aires (GEBA) since she was 4 years old.[3][4] Habif is part of the so-called New Generation of Argentina's Women's Field Hockey.[5]

Sports career

Florencia Habif started field hockey at GEBA and then joined Argentina's Junior National Team at the age of 17, achieving a Gold Medal in the 2010 Pan American Youth Championship Tournament in Montevideo, Uruguay; then qualifying and earning a Silver Medal at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics in Singapore.[6][7] Florencia Habif earned also a Silver Medal in 2011 at the Champions Trophy held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands; a Gold Medal at the 2011 Four Nations held in Berlin, Germany; and a Gold Medal at the 2012 Women's Hockey Champions Trophy held at Rosario, Argentina.[8] Florencia Habif played the Visa International Invitational Hockey Tournament at London before her first Olympic Games at the age of 19 at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.[9] The last tournament she played was the 2012 Pan American Junior Championship held at Guadalajara, Mexico, where Argentina achieved the first place and Habif served as Captain.[10][11]

Regarding her field hockey equipment, Florencia Habif is sponsored by Gryphon Hockey, along with other field hockey players from around the world, such as Australia, Belgium, Great Britain, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa and United States of America.[12] Gryphon is a player driven company established in 1983 by the Australian field hockey player Peter Haselhurst.[13]

  • Player of the Tournament at the 2012 Pan American Junior Championship held at Guadalajara, Mexico.[15]
  • Revelación de Oro (Gold Revelation) on 2012, at the Fiesta del Deporte ("Party of the Sports") sponsored by Clarín, one of Argentina's main newspapers, due to her performance with the National Team.[16][17]
  • Nominated to the Terna Olímpica 2012 at the Premios Olimpia, an award organized by the Círculo de Periodistas de Buenos Aires (Circle of Journalists of Buenos Aires).[18]
