Fljótsdalshérað is a municipality located in eastern Iceland.
Population and area
As of April 1, 2008, it had a total population of 4,033. At 8884 km², it is the largest municipality in the country by area. The biggest town in the municipality is Egilsstaðir, with a population of 2,300.
The wild reindeer of Iceland are most situated in Fljótsdalshérað, where they have a number of 5,000 - 10,000. The largest forest in Iceland, Hallormstaðaskógur is also located in Fljótsdalshérað.
