Flekkerøy is an island situated outside the town of Kristiansand, part of Kristiansand municipality. Since 1989 it is connected to the mainland through a 2320 metre long tunnel. It has 3,632 inhabitants (23 October 2013).
History
From the 15th century Flekkerøy was an important harbour for the Skagerrak. In June 1635 Christiansø Fortress was built by Christian IV to protect the harbour.[1]
