FilmFocus is a British film website which has been running since January 2004. According to Alexa Internet data it is the second most popular film website in the United Kingdom behind Empire (magazine)'s website.
Site Features
FilmFocus employs a populist approach to its coverage and features daily film news and weekly reviews of cinema and DVD releases. It also regularly features many interviews with actors, writers and directors. Users are given the opportunity to enter competitions to win movie-related products.
On occasion, FilmFocus runs special features covering particularly films or subjects. Examples of this are its coverage of the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Premiere and its coverage of the London Film Festival .
History
Since opening in January 2004, FilmFocus has gone through one major design change.
The regular feature Look At, which combined interview features with making-of pieces and dedicated editorials, was replaced by a simple Interviews section. The latter two features were moved to a special Focus On section which also includes FilmFocus' one-off special features.
In early 2005, FilmFocus began offering readers RSS feeds. Initially for its news content, these soon spread to its cinema reviews, interviews, competitions and feature coverage.
The FilmFocus Film of The Year award
In January 2006 FilmFocus gave its first Film of The Year Award, for 2005, to Joss Whedon's science fiction film Serenity (film). Whedon collected the award in London .
The award was presented following a Top-25 list of the previous year's films, of which Serenity came first. According to FilmFocus, the list was composed of the editorial staff's picks along with contributions and feedback from its users.
