Fermatta Music Academy is an institution with more than 20 years of experience delivering musical education throughout Latin America. Its educational method and academic staff, have provided students with the necessary expertise to lead in the music industry, providing such industry with graduates from basic courses the likes of Workshops and ProTools Certification to Graduate, Associate, Bachelor and Master's Degrees as well as PhDs. Its students come from many parts of the world, including Japan, Germany, Ecuador, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Colombia amongst many others .

History

Fermatta Music Academy opened its first campus in 1993 in Mexico City (also called Distrito Federal). As part of its national expansion, in 2006, the institution opened a campus in Guadalajara, Jalisco, the second largest city in Mexico. On October 2011 it opened its doors to a second campus in Mexico City (D. F.), making it the largest chain of Music Institutions in the country.

The campus

Fermatta has three campuses. The first one, in Mexico City (D. F.), is located in one of the largest neighborhoods of the city, Jardines del Pedregal, and it has classrooms with professional studio acoustics, mixing consoles, editing equipment and recording and mixing studios. Its recording studios, unique in Latin America, include ICONs and C-24 mixing consoles, editing and mixing studios with a Live Room and Control Room as well as an analog-digital studio equipped with a Sony MXP-3000 mixing console with the possibility of two inch magnetic tape audio recording.

The second campus is located in the city of Guadalajara, the birthplace of great musical talent. This campus is located in the neighborhood of Chapalita, in front of the Glorieta de La Estampida. Its recording studios include ICONs and AWS900 SSL mixing consoles, which allows for recording quality in both; stereo and 5.1 surround.

Its auditorium includes the console Venue D-Show Profile, which is currently the most advanced device used in live sound production for concerts around the world.

The third campus, (located in the Roma neighborhood) in Mexico City, close to the famous Glorieta de Cibeles, opened on October 2011, This campus has several rooms for instrumental instruction, theory and ensemble. It has a production studio specializing in home recording, with equipment like the Interface M-Audio Fast Track Pro and an extensive library of virtual instruments like Native Komplete 7. It is also fully equipped for it's Associate's Degrees such as electronic music with devices such as Pioneer CDJ 2000 turntables and the Newmark IDJ3 Digital DJ mixer.

Fermatta Educational Method (MEF in Spanish)

The Fermatta Educational Method provides a teaching system that applies a precise teaching sequence using its own books, designed to achieve an accurate result in each of the graduates.

The main objective of the Fermatta Educational Method is to standardize the best education for students, eliminating unwanted variation and charting a clear path which end results are proven. The second goal is to eliminate the difficulties of teaching, with continuous analysis of the same method to keep it at the forefront of teaching techniques, technology and education providing the basics needed for students to compete and act as leaders in the entertainment industry of the future.

Fermatta Educational Method is divided into three sections of musical studies:

Any graduate of the Fermatta Music Academy is able to perform at one of the largest and most competitive industries in the world. Their training will be based on fundamental knowledge through the three educational sections mentioned above.

Academic programs

Fermatta offers a degree in Music Management, Music Business and Electronic Music, and a DJ Certification Program with a dedicated Electronic Music Studio in Mexico City.

Only a few universities around the world are certified by ProTools and Fermatta is one of them.[citation needed]

Pre-University Course

It is designed for all students entering Fermatta, the Pre-University Course is designed to balance their musical education because the students do not all arrive at the same level of knowledge and experience. In this way, the Pre-University Course was designed to increase the effectiveness of the teaching process, it requires everyone to take the Pre-University Course, plus it is a requirement to enter any of the bachelor degrees offered by this Academy. However, it is open to anyone interested in further study of music.

In this course, students receive the necessary theory on the key points of the degrees of Fermatta, including: music theory, instrumental instruction, ear training, complementary piano, ensemble performance and introduction to music technology.

Fermatta Workshops

The Workshops are focused on a specific style of contemporary music exploring its history, leading exponents and key concepts, they provide knowledge to play an instrument that the students choose, in a professional fashion.

From age 11, anyone can enter Fermatta Workshops, either those who just take their first steps in music or those who wish to specialize and expand their horizons. For this reason, the study program consists of two levels: Essential (basic) and Premier (advanced).

In order to promote a broader creative expression, Fermatta Workshops has a varied range of musical genres including jazz, blues, rock, pop, R&B, latin, metal and funk.

The National Council of Fermatta

The Fermatta Music Academy created the National Council of Fermatta (Consejo Nacional Fermatta or CNF in Spanish), composed by a team of executives, academic review directors, advisors, coordinators, marketers, designers, editors, programmers and financiers who run and regulate the campuses in Mexico City and Guadalajara.

It was founded in 2009 as a response to the great expansion of the Fermatta Music Academy, as well as the development and creation of their bachelors, masters, doctoral and technical degrees.

The National Council of Fermatta is responsible for providing students with the best study materials, cutting-edge technological equipment, and also to regulate the preparation, academic growth and examination of the teachers that make up the faculty in Fermatta.

In the offices, based in Guadalajara, is located the team of editors working with the M-Utveckling Publishing Group (based in Sweden) in the development of curriculum, academic programs, courses, masters and doctoral programs offered at Fermatta.

Editorial Group M-Utveckling

The M-Utveckling Publishing Group is a team of research, development and evaluation of teaching materials and texts applied to learning. This group is responsible for working with the National Council of Fermatta to be at the forefront in the development and application of achievements in different fields of research.

Currently, Fermatta Music Academy has an agreement with the M-Utveckling Publishing Group and has the support of its staff in the offices of the National Council of Fermatta for the improvement and renewal of Fermatta Educational Method and their programs of study.

Its main objective is to investigate, prepare and develop the textbooks used by students within the institution, i. e. texts of specialized courses to bachelors, masters and doctoral teaching, this material is one of a kind and custom made for the Fermatta Music Academy.

Academic Staff

Fermatta’s teachers come from different countries around the world such as United States, Argentina, Cuba, Chile and Venezuela.

As a part of the National Council of Fermatta, a high command group which directs and governs the campuses in all aspects, it’s formed by a Director and two Deputy Academic Review. They are responsible for overseeing the performance of teachers in the campus of Guadalajara and Mexico City.

Here is a sketch of some members of the National Council of Fermatta:

Eduardo Díazmuñoz (Director of Academic Review of the National Council of Fermatta), who is conductor, composer, performer, arranger and producer. He has conducted over 100 orchestras in 15 countries, he has been Music Director of 10 of them, Principal Guest for other 6 in addition to having founded 3, among these orchestras we find the San Diego Opera, the Philharmonic of Mexico City Opera and the University of Illinois. Along with the activities in Fermatta, he also serves as an Artistic and Musical Director of the Opera Division at the University of Illinois.

He studied piano, conducting, composition, cello and percussion. His main teachers in musical direction were: Léon Barzin, Leonard Bernstein and Francisco Savín, with whom he participated at different times in a professional manner as well as having served as assistant to all three. He has also been featured as a composer, pianist, arranger, orchestrator, producer, essayist and is certainly one of the most acclaimed music teachers in the world.

Note that he has received two Latin Grammy nominations in for the Philharmonic of Mexico City and Baja California Orchestra in the category of Best Classical Album, and with Bogota Philharmonic Orchestra he received his third nomination, winning the award in the category of Best Instrumental Album.

He has collaborated with great musicians such as Luciano Pavarotti, Joaquín Achúcarro, Cuarteto Latinoamericano, Elizabeth Futral, David Geringas, Gary Graffman, Lowell Greer, Jerry Hadley, Daniel Hope, Sharon Isbin, Natasha Korsakova, Richard Leech, Jorge Federico Osorio, Mark Peskanov, Carlos Prieto, Edison Quintana, Samuel Ramey, Jorge Risi, Maria Teresa Rodríguez, Ángel Romero, János Starker, Henryk Szeryng, Susan Starr, Thomas Hampson, Frederica von Stade, Ralph Votapek, Pieter Wispelwey, Vicente Zarzo, Zvi Zeitlin and Eva Maria Zuk, among many others.

Rodney Alejandro (Assistant Director of Academic Review for Technological and Practical Studies, Music Business and Entertainment of the National Council of Fermatta), completed his musical studies in Contemporary Composition and Arranging and Music Production and Engineering in the city of Boston, Massachusetts. He was recognized as Distinguished Alumnus at the Audio Engineering Society Convention in San Francisco. He began his career at an early age as a producer, bassist, programmer and keyboardist.

The catalog of songs written by Professor Alejandro have been recorded by artists from the United States, Asia, Europe and South America. He has composed and produced tracks for TV series like The Shield, Smallville and Ellen.

Throughout his career, Rodney has had the opportunity to work and share the stage with artists like Eric Clapton, Ray Charles, Sting, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, The Temptations, Chucho Valdés and Lauryn Hill, among others luminaries, and he has sold over 10 million albums worldwide. As a musical director and musician performer he has traveled around the world, from America to Japan, and he has won several awards and nominations from the Golden Globe Awards, Grammy and Emmy Awards.

At the same time developing his work in Fermatta, Alejandro is part of the Texas Chapter Board of Governors of the Recording Academy and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) in the United States.

Mark Kamins (Assistant Director of Academic Review for Technological Studies, Electronic Music, DJ Certification and Music Business of the National Council of Fermatta), without doubt, one of the most successful and renowned producers, DJs and music industry executives of all time.

He has spent the last 25 years of his life taking his music to the most diverse corners of the globe and fulfilling the dreams of many artists. He has produced and mixed over 400 albums, working with artists such as U2, Beastie Boys, Bob Marley, UB40, Sinead O’Connor, David Byrne and Café Tacvba, and he was a key factor in the rise of Madonna like a superstar, getting her first contract and producing her hit "Everybody". He has earned 13 gold and platinum discs for his work.

Besides, he has developed as a producer and vice president of companies such as BMG International, Warner Music and World Music, head of the area of A&R for Island Records and, last but not least, he is one of the most experienced and recognized DJs in the world, who performed in over 38 countries, being recognized as the first DJ in projects worldwide, opening the door for many DJs to follow.

Fermatta Educational Support Club

This Academy will reward the preference of their students and the general public with the Fermatta Educational Support Club, where everyone can invite friends, relatives and acquaintances to visit the Institution and meet its academic offerings. A commission is given for every person that achieves register.

Fermatta Master Class Series

An opportunity provided by the Academy in which musicians, songwriters and producers with experience and international recognition, share their musical skills with students and all persons willing to participate in this important event.

With Fermatta Master Class Series, the assistants have the opportunity to learn directly from top professionals of the musical environment, procedures, behaviors and habits suitable to perform successfully in the music industry.

Each Master Class is a lecture with a combination of issues that the guest has decided to share and questions may be made by the assistants. Since its first edition in 2007, the Master Class Series have presented many great personalities such as:

Fermatta Lifetime Achievement Award

Jack White has been named an Honorary Dean at the Fermatta Music Academy in Mexico City. On August 22, the rocker made a surprise appearance at the Academy's 20th anniversary celebration to give a speech on his family, the influence of Detroit on his life and the technical aspects of songwriting.

"The sense of being a musician is making art, and I do not care whether it is solo or as part of a collective project," White told the crowd, which featured over 150 students and members of the local media. "At all times, I seek to express myself, and different circumstances of my life could also become multiple creative and stylistic channels."

White was also given a Lifetime Achievement Award at the ceremony, where he was introduced by singer-songwriter Elan. He's the first musician to be awarded the Honorary Dean title in the history of the Academy[1]

Fermatta Fest

The Fermatta Fest is a musical event organized by Fermatta Academy of Music, where students from campus D. F. and campus Guadalajara have the opportunity to play their musical creations on a real stage, facing a real audience. This festival tests their knowledge, creativity and talent, thus enriching the artistic experience and expanding their professional view within the world of music.

The Fermatta Fest was first held in the city of Guadalajara, Jalisco, in June 2010, featuring 11 bands (10 from Guadalajara and 1 from Mexico City), who demonstrated their talent and musical knowledge. Subsequently, in December 2010 took place the second edition in D. F. and for the year 2011, due to the great success this event has achieved, Fermatta made the third edition of the festival again in the city of Guadalajara.

The fourth edition of Fermatta Fest was held at José Cuervo Salón in Mexico City (formerly known as Salón 21), one of the most important venues in the city, as it features a digital live ProTools set up, which results in production of the highest level in the world of music.

The Fermatta Fest organizing committee consists of advanced level alumnus studying concert production, engineering and music production and highly qualified personnel in the business of organizing musical events.[citation needed]
