Felipe Ferreira Lima (born April 5, 1985 in Cuiabá) is a Brazilian swimmer.[ 1] At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he competed in the Men's 100-metre breaststroke, finishing in 8th (last place) place in the semifinals, failing to reach the final.

International career

2006–2008

Felipe was in the 2006 FINA World Swimming Championships (25 m), in Shanghai, where he finished 12th in the 50-metre breaststroke [1] and 17th in the 100-metre breaststroke [2]

He was at the 2006 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Victoria, where he finished 16th in the 100-metre breaststroke.[3]

He is a former South American record holder of the 4×100-metre medley relay in Olympic pool: 3:39.30, mark obtained in September 9, 2006 with Leonardo Guedes, Fernando Silva and César Cielo.[4] He also hit the South American record in the 100-metre breaststroke, with 1:01.56 on September 10, 2006. He is the first Mato Grosso's South American record holder in swimming.[5] On December 16, 2006, improved his record for the 100-metre breaststroke, doing 1:01.52.[6]

In the 2007 World Aquatics Championships, he finished 24th in the 50-metre breaststroke [7] and 30th in the 100-metre breaststroke.[8]

Participating in the 2007 Summer Universiade in Bangkok, Thailand, won the silver medal in the 50-metre breaststroke, beating the South American record, with the mark of 27.94 seconds.[9]

At the 2007 Pan American Games, in Rio de Janeiro, Lima won a silver medal in the 4×100-metre medley relay, by having participated in heats. [10] He also finished 5th in the 100-metre breaststroke.

In 2008, Felipe Lima obtained Olympic index for 2008 Summer Olympics in the 100-metre breaststroke, with a time of 1:01.21, but did not get the vacancy, because he finished in 3rd place in the Brazilian trials, and only two swimmers per country can go to the Olympics. Henrique Barbosa, with 1:00.79, and Felipe França, with 1:01.17, was the selected swimmers.[11][12]

2008–2012

He was at the 2010 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Irvine, where he finished 8th in the 100-metre breaststroke,[13] and 10th in the 50-metre breaststroke.[14]

He was in the 2011 World Aquatics Championships, in Shanghai, where he finished 24th in the 100-metre breaststroke.[15]

In 2011 Pan American Games, Felipe Lima won the silver medal at 100-metre breaststroke [16] and the gold medal at 4×100-metre medley, for taking part in qualifying.[17]

2012 Summer Olympics

First participation in the Olympics, was in 2012 Summer Olympics in London, where he went to the 100-metre breaststroke semifinal, finishing in 13th place.[18]

2012–2016

In the 2012 FINA World Swimming Championships (25 m), obtained his best result in a World Championship, going to three finals: at the 50-metre breaststroke, finished in 6th place,[19] in the 100-metre breaststroke, ranked 8th,[20] and in the 4×100-metre medley, finished in 4th position.[21]

At the 2013 World Aquatics Championships in Barcelona, Lima classified to the 100-metre breaststroke final in the fifth place, with a time of 59.84 seconds, first breaking the 1-minute barrier.[22] In the final, exceeded himself again, getting the best time of his life without super-suits, 59.65 seconds, getting a historic bronze medal for Brazil. It was the first time in history that a Brazilian won a medal in the 100-metre breaststroke at the World Championships. [23][24] In the 50-metre breaststroke, almost went to another World Championship final, but got a weaker time than he obtained at heats, and ended in 9th place.[25] And in the 4×100-metre medley, he finished 12th, along with Leonardo de Deus, Marcelo Chierighini and Nicholas Santos.[26]
