Fazle Lohani (Bengali: ফজেল লোহানী) (12 March 1929 – 30 October 1985)[1] was a well-known Bangladeshi journalist, television host, songwriter and film producer. He was best known for his popular Bengali-language TV news magazine show Jodi Kichu Mone Na Koren, which aired on Bangladesh Television from 1977 to 1985.[2]

Early life

Fazle Lohani was born in the village of Kaulia in Sirajganj District, Bangladesh. His brother Fateh Lohani would also became a famous TV personality.[2]

Career

Fazle Lohani published a weekly newspaper, The Purbabangla from Dhaka beginning in 1947 and a popular monthly magazine of literature and culture The Agatya (also transliterated as Ogotya) beginning in 1949. After working as a journalist in his homeland for few years, he went to England and reported for the BBC News. Following his return, he pursued a career as a journalist and writer.[2]

He penned the legendary song "Salam salam hajar salam..." sung by Abdul Jabbar and broadcast by Shadhin Bangla Betar Kendro in 1971.[3][2]

He directed and hosted the TV news magazine program Jodi Kichu Mone Na Koren from 1977 until his death in 1985. The TV show was popular in Bangladesh and it starred such personalities as A.F.M. Abdul Ali Lalu (aka Lalu Bhai).[4]

He also produced a film titled Pension.[5]
