Faujdarhat Cadet College, is a selective high school (grade 7 to grade 12), modeled after public schools in the UK (according to the Public Schools Act 1868), financed partially by the Bangladesh Army, located at Faujdarhat, near Chittagong, in Bangladesh.

Overview

Faujdarhat Cadet College boards 300 boys between the ages of 12 and 18 (50 in each year for grade-7 ) through a nationwide admission test composed of written, oral and medical examinations.

The school is headed by a Principal, appointed by the Adjutant General's Branch of Bangladesh Army. It contains four houses, each headed by a housemaster, selected from among the senior members of the teaching staff.

School uniform

All students wear a uniform similar to cadet officers in military acadeimy in academic hours, short sleeves in afternoon games and sports, and long sleeves with tie during evening activities. There are some variations in the school dress worn by boys in authority.Now-a-days, cadets are given Blazers in winter.

Members of the teaching staff wear a form of school dress when teaching.

History

Faujdarhat Cadet College was the first cadet college to be established in erstwhile East Pakistan. It was established on April 28, 1958 by New Zealander William Maurice Brown. Until 1965, it was known as the East Pakistan Cadet College. Its history is recorded in the form of personal reflections appeared in the following publications:

Academic Block

Faujdarhat Cadet College is situated on the Dhaka - Chittagong grand trunk road. Chittagong city center is half an hour away. Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA) is 2 km away. Straight ahead of Faujdarhat Cadet College, the Bay of Bengal is about 1 km away. Exact location: latitude 22°24'1.68"N; longitude 91°45'43.70"E

Museum

There is a museum in the college, situated just beside the auditorium. Some of the items in the museum are pictures of ex-cadets and a list of cadets from 1958 to the present.

Dining Hall

The dining hall is named after the first principal of FCC as 'Colonel Brown Hall'. Five meals are served every day.

Library

The library is a collection of references and archives containing more than ten thousand books known as 'Rab Pathagar'.

  • Nazrul House (formerly, Shahjahan House), house color blue, emblem a jaguar.

House motto: They Live Who Dare. Named after Kazi Nazrul Islam.

  • Shahidullah House (formerly, Akbar House), house color red, emblem a tiger.

House motto: We Shall Never Surrender. Dr. Muhammad Shahidullah

  • Fazlul Hoque House (formerly, Ayub House), house color green, emblem a panther.

House motto: Never Give In. Named after A. K. Fazlul Huq.

In between Fazlul Hoque House and Nazrul House, the Dining Hall is located.All houses and Dining Hall are connected by covered paths so that cadets don't face difficulties during the rains.This covered path extends to connect the Teaching Block too.

Academic system

From 2003, the cadet colleges were converted to the English version of the National curriculum.
