Facundo Conte (born August 25, 1989) is an Argentine volleyball player. He plays at club level for Pallavolo Gabeca in the Italian Serie A1, and at the international level for the Argentina national team.

Son of former player Hugo Conte, he is part of an Argentine volleyball generation, many members of which are related to the 1988 Olympic bronze medalists.[2]

Career

Conte's first participation with the Argentine national team was at the under-19 level during the 2007 World Championship (4th place). He then debuted at the senior level during the 2008 America's Cup, held in Brazil (again 4th).[3] Conte was also part of the youth national team that won the 2008 South American Championship, defeating Brazil in the final and breaking a 26-year period without winning the tournament.[4]

In 2009, Conte played his first World League, finishing 5th with Argentina. After this participation, the player joined the Italian League's team Zinella Bologna, where he was coached by his father Hugo.[5] During that year, Conte also helped Argentina finish third in the U-21 World Championship, the country's best position in the history of the tournament.[6]

In 2010, Facundo participated in the World League, but this time Argentina was unsuccessful losing all 14 games.[7] In September of that year, Conte was selected by coach Javier Weber to participate in the FIVB World Championship, and vice-captained the team despite being only 21 years old.

Personal life

Facundo is the son of former volleyball Olympic medalist Hugo Conte.[8]

He finished his secondary studies in Centro Cultural Italiano from Olivos. Currently, he goes out with indoor volleyball player from the Czech Republic Helena Havelkova.
