Ezra Kire is an American singer/songwriter for the indie/punk band Morning Glory.[1] Ezra Arrow Kire was born on December 30 of 1975 in the small Canadian/US border town of Grand Forks. He moved frequently from place to place while his parents picked up work in construction and eventually government aid which took him overseas to the city of Colombo, Sri Lanka. It was here that he started his first band with friend Derek Dees. They played their first ever show at the Overseas International School cafeteria, and two shows after that including the senior prom in 1990. They were in the 8th grade.[2]

In the late 90s/early 2000s he was lead guitarist in now defunct political ska/punk band Choking Victim.[3] After Choking Victim released just one record, No Gods, No Managers,[4] the band broke up and Kire briefly started a street/skate punk band called InDK. After the demise of InDK he re-united with former band mate Stza to form the political punk/ska band Leftöver Crack, and toured extensively in Europe, the United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico, and the United States.[5] He resides in New York City, where he sings and plays guitar and piano in the punk band Morning Glory,[6] having left Leftover Crack in 2012.[7]

After a dispute with their record label, Hellcat Records (a subsidiary of Epitaph Records) over censorship,[8] Leftöver Crack released a full length record titled Mediocre Generica on that label in 2001 before moving to Alternative Tentacles Records for their second album Fuck World Trade (2004), which was recorded in Chicago with engineer/producer Steve Albini.[9] In addition to this publicized dispute with their label,[5][8] Leftöver Crack attracted considerable attention from the NYPD.[10]

After over a decade as guitarist and secondary vocal duties in LOC, Mr. Kire left the band in early 2012 to concentrate on Morning Glory, citing that he "wanted to move on and do other things".[11] Shortly after leaving Morning Glory was signed to Fat Wreck Chords out of San Francisco, CA.[12] M-Glory is a more anthemic, polished version of Kire's melodic song writing, and is at once more personal and optimistic than his Leftover Crack material.[6] In 2001 they released the full-length record "This Is No Time To Sleep"[6] on CD. Only 1000 copies were printed, and to date (Nov. 2011) it has not been re-pressed, making it a hard-to-find LP.[6]

Morning Glory was formed into a full band in 2001 with JP Otto (Stockyard Stoics) on drums, Lucky Strano (World Inferno Friendship Society) on lead guitar, Mike Hause (Tulsa Doom), and artist and founding member of the iconic crust band Nausea's[13] John John Jesse.[14] In 2003 they released their first studio recording, an EP titled "The Whole World Is Watching"[15] with recording engineer Jesse Cannon at Musformation Studios in Union City, New Jersey.[16] In 2008 they did a brief tour of the West Coast in the United States.

While Kire plays almost all the instruments on their records,[17] the live band regrouped in 2010 with a new line up including Early Gates on drums, "Metal" Chris on bass, Shawn Gardiner, and Adam Schrager on guitars. They recorded a full-length studio record, again with Jesse Cannon at the control board in New Jersey, spread out over the course of 10 months. It was released under the title "Poets Were My Heroes" on August 28 of 2012 on the label Fat Wreck Chords, out of San Francisco, California.[18]

Morning Glory completed tours of the Mid West and West Coast of the U.S. in late 2012 and early 2013, and toured the UK/Europe in March/April 2013,[19] The first single from Poets, Born To December, was released in May 2013 with two other unreleased songs: "Sara Says" and "Jesus Christ Boogie (O Aneurysm!)" as a 7" EP on colored vinyl.[20]
