Extant is an upcoming American science fiction drama television series that will air on CBS. It revolves around a female astronaut (Halle Berry^[1]) who returns home to her family after a year in outer space. On August 7, 2013, CBS announced that it had placed a 13-episode straight-to-series order, bypassing the pilot stage.^[4] Steven Spielberg will serve as an executive producer.^[3]^[5] The series is scheduled to premiere on July 2, 2014.^[6]
