Expressway S17 or Express Road S17 (in Polish Droga ekspresowa S17) is an important road in Poland which, when completed, will run from Warsaw, through Lublin, to the border crossing with Ukraine at Hrebenne/Rava-Ruska. Its route runs parallel to National road 17 (DK 17) which it will replace. As of January 2014, 57.5 km (35.7 mi) out of a planned 310 km (190 mi) have been completed, and an additional 30.7 km (19.1 mi) is under construction. These are three separate sections forming the bypasses of Garwolin, Lublin (partially completed, to fully open later in 2014) and Hrebenne. The busier portion of the road between Warsaw and Lublin was to be finished by 2015, but with subsequent reductions in government spending on infrastructure the completion was delayed. According to current (Spring, 2013) plans this section will be put to tender later in 2013 and construction will start in 2014.[1] The road southeast of Lublin has lower traffic density and is not likely to be completed before 2020, except for short sections serving as city bypasses.

On December 17, 2009 the bidding process was started for the contracts to build the 66 km (41 mi) section of the road around Lublin, from Kurów to Piaski, which will include the city's east-west bypass road.[2] The construction of this section started in 2010, with the first 13 km section to be opened to traffic in late 2012[3] and the rest in 2014.[4][5] On this section S17 will overlap with S12.

In Warsaw the S17 expressway will serve as the eastern bypass of the city (Wschodnia Obwodnica Warszawy). The construction timetable is not yet set, and will depend on factors determined by governmental budget decisions.
