Everett McIver (born August 5, 1970 in Cumberland County, North Carolina) is a former American football offensive guard in the National Football League. He was signed by the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent in 1994. He played college football at Elizabeth City State. McIver also played for the Miami Dolphins and Dallas Cowboys.
Professional career
McIver attended Seventy-First High School in Fayetteville, North Carolina (C/O '88). He graduated from Elizabeth City State University and signed as an undrafted free agent with the NY Jets in 1994. He appeared in 18 games for the Jets over the next 2 seasons.
He was released by the Jets in 1996 and signed by the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins sent Everett to NFL Europe for seasoning. He returned and played well enough in 1996 to earn a starting role for the Dolphins in 1997.
The Dallas Cowboys signed Everett as a free agent in 1998, where he started and played in 20 games over the next 2 seasons with the Cowboys.
Michael Irvin incident
In 1998 Michael Irvin allegedly inflicted a two-inch cut in the neck of McIver with a pair of barber's scissors, after apparently arguing over which of the two would get their hair cut first, while some team members were also getting haircuts. Whether it was battery or accidental, McIver did not press charges, and rumors swirled that Irvin brokered a six-figure settlement with him to drop the matter. The incident came to be known as "scissor gate".
