Europa Editions
Europa Editions is an independently owned publishing company founded in 2005 by husband and wife Sandro Ferri and Sandra Ozzola Ferri, who are also the owners and publishers of the Italian house, Edizioni E/O. The New York-based Europa Editions specializes in works of international fiction and non-fiction, and is one of the leading publishers of fiction in translation in the US.[1] The New York office is run by Kent Carroll, former Editorial Director at Grove Press and Publisher and Editor-in-Chief at Carroll & Graf Publishers.[2]
The Days of Abandonment by Elena Ferrante (translated by Ann Goldstein) was Europa Editions' first book, published in 2005. The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery (translated by Alison Anderson) gave Europa its first best seller in 2008. Europa published its 100th book in 2011, The Hottest Dishes of the Tartar Cuisine by Alina Bronsky (translated by Tim Mohr). The company puts out about 30-35 titles a year.[3]
Europa Editions publications maintain uniformity through "a distinctive look for all its titles, with French flaps, a consistent font on the book spines and a logo of a stork that appears with the publisher's name on the front of each volume".[4]
