Eurocrat

Eurocrat is a pejorative term that refers to "a staff member of the administrative commission of the European Union"[1] or, more broadly, to any official of the European Union.[2]

Origins

First recorded in 1961,[3] the term is a portmanteau of "European" and "bureaucrat"[4] and was originally coined by Richard Mayne, a journalist and personal assistant to the first Commission president, Walter Hallstein.[5]
