Espinho Municipality (Portuguese pronunciation: [(ɨ)ʃˈpiɲu] ( )) is located in Aveiro District, Portugal with a total area of 21.1 km² and a total population of 32,177 inhabitants, and 30,249 voters (2006). It contains the city of Espinho.
[Note: the name Espinho means thorn.]
The municipality is composed of 5 parishes.
It is located in both Greater Oporto (Porto) and GAM of Oporto ( Porto Metropolitan Area ). The current Mayor is José Barbosa Mota, elected by the Socialist Party.
The municipal holiday is June 16. It is one of the smallest municipalities in Portugal. Until 1899, it was part of the Santa Maria da Feira Municipality.
