Ervin Zukanović (born 11 February 1987) is a Bosnian football player who plays as a defender for Gent in Belgium.[1] In the 2005/06-season, he started his career as a professional soccer player in the Bosnian team Željezničar Sarajevo. One year afterwards, he went to the Austrian Austria Lustenau, but he got hardly any playing opportunities here.

Zukanović went along FK Velež in Germany, to the small team KFC Uerdingen 05. He came into the spotlight of several teams. Excelsior Moeskroen was interested, but finally, FCV Dender transferred him to the Belgian First Division during winter break. The Bosnian defender became a player in the basic team of Dender, but was sent down to Second Division at the end of the season.

The left-footed defender became in the Dender-team of Johan Boskamp a basic player, but the team didn't manage to promote to First Division anymore. In summer 2010, Zukanović was transferred to the promoted team KAS Eupen, in which he entered to succeed Mijat Marić. Zukanović became a basic player in the team out of the East Cantons, but at the end of the season, the team fell to Second Division again.

2011, the Bosnian player signed in the team of KV Kortrijk, in which Hein Vanhaezebrouck was coach. Together with Baptiste Martin, he constituted a solid duo in central defense. In his first season in Kortrijk, Zukanović immediately reached the cup final, which was lost with 1–0 to KSC Lokeren. Nevertheless, the team managed to qualify for play-off I. Zukanović was linked to RSC Anderlecht, Club Brugge, PSV and Borussia Mönchengladbach.[2]

In the season 2012–13, Zukanović left during the winter transfer period. He left Kortrijk for Gent, the team in which he should become a strong player in central defence.[3]

International career

He scored his first goal in a friendly match against Slovenia on 6 February 2013, but it was ruled offside.
