Errázuriz family

The Errázuriz family of Chile became politically influential since the beginning of the 19th century, and played a very significant role in Chilean politics. Francisco Errazuriz, an immigrant of Basque origin,[1] was the first member of this family to arrive in Chile in 1735. Since their arrival in Chile, members of the Errazuriz family have played significant roles in most important cultural, social and political events. The Errazuriz family has given the nation four presidents of the Republic, two Archbishops of Santiago, and several diplomats, writers and industrialists.Its most prominent members, notable in their time, are:
- José Antonio de Errázuriz y Madariaga (1747-1821), priest, politician and President of the Chilean Senate in 1814
- Fernando Errázuriz Aldunate (1776-1841), politician and Provisional president of Chile
- María del Carmen Sotomayor de Errázuriz (1780-1852), First Lady of Chile
- Isidoro Errázuriz Aldunate (1782-1833), politician
- Ramón Errázuriz Aldunate (1785-1875), politician
- Federico Errázuriz Zañartu (1825-1877), politician and President of Chile
- Eulogia Echaurren de Errázuriz (1830-1887), First Lady of Chile
- Maximiano Errázuriz Valdivieso (1832-1890), politician and industrialist
- Crescente Errázuriz Valdivieso (1839-1931), Archbishop of Santiago

- Guillermo Errázuriz Vergara (c.1898-1922), diplomat who killed himself over Peggy Hopkins Joyce
- Francisco Javier Errázuriz Ossa (1933), Cardinal Archbishop of Santiago (1996 - 2010)
- Francisco Javier Errázuriz Talavera (1942), politician and presidential candidate in the 1989 presidential election, ex senator.
