Ernest T. Jones (born c. 1975) is the current running backs coach for the University of Connecticut Huskies football team. He was head football coach at Alcorn State University. He was named the head football coach after the 2007 season and served as head coach in 2008. He was controversially fired from this position in December 2008.[1] He returned to the University of Cincinnati as the Director of Player Services in 2009. For the 2010 he will be an assistant coach at the University at Buffalo under former University of Cincinnati assistant coach and now UB head football Coach Jeff Quinn.

Jones is an alumnus of Alcorn State and a former wide receiver on the Braves' football team. Prior to receiving the head coach position, Jones served as an assistant at Concordia University, Kentucky State University, Oberlin College, Central Michigan University and the University of Cincinnati.

Jones will be responsible for helping develop the Fighting Irish football players in three of the five core areas Head Coach, Brian Kelly uses to develop complete student-athletes: intellectual development, social development, and spiritusl development, as (the coaching stall is charged with skill development and the strength and conditioning staff is responsible for physical development.

As reported by the Irish.nbcsports.com release, Jones will act as a liaison between the football players and the coaching staff, plus serve as primary contact between both the student's welfare and development office and academic services for student-athletes department.

Jones is a graduate of Alcorn State University, Lorman, Mississippi (1997), and spent a football season as their Head Coach in 2008. Prior coach positions: Concordia Univ.; Kentucky State Univ; Oberlin College;

He worked under Coach Kelly from 2005–07, coaching at both Univ. of Cincinnati and Central Michigan University. He joined Head Coach, Brian Kelly in 2009 as the Director of Player Services at Cincinnati, working both academic services and community outreach.

Jones left Jeff Quinn's, Buffalo University Program, where he coordinated the recruiting efforts of the Bulls to rejoin Coach Brian Kelly. Jones has coached cornerbacks and running backs as a Position Coach under Kelly, and will likely take a role on the field when a job opens-up, in the near future.
