Career highlights

Ern Henfry (24 July 1921 – 13 January 2007) was an Australian rules footballer in the Victorian Football League (VFL). After playing three seasons for Perth Football Club in the WAFL from 1939 to 1941, and finishing second to Haydn Bunton in the Sandover Medal in 1941, he joined the RAAF. While based in Victoria for the RAAF, in 1944 he played two games for Carlton.

With the war ended, and Henfry transferred to Victoria, Carlton requested a clearance from Perth to enable him to play for them. He was forced to sit out the 1946 season as Perth did not agree, however, the blow was softened with Carlton asking him to captain the team for the 1947 season. It was a successful year, with Carlton defeating Essendon in a one point thriller in the Grand Final. The season was capped off when he shared Carlton's best and fairest medal with his close friend Bert Deacon, who also won the Brownlow Medal that year, Carlton's first. Henfry could only manage fourth.
