Eric Mathoho (born 1 May 1990 in Venda) is a South African football (soccer) central defender. He currently plays for Kaizer Chiefs and South Africa.

Club career

"Mulomowandau" as popularly known was discovered in Venda, his place of birth and childhood. As an exiting young player, He caught the attention of footballing scouts and went on to join Bloemfontein Celtic Youth Team. Under the professional eye of football coaching, Mathoho became a fearless defender, tall, good on the ball, and commanding in defense, the Young Venda broke into the senior team and did not waste tine before finding his way into the starting line-up for Celtic. Eric formed a strong partnership with team captain Thabo Nthethe, He helped Celtic to finish in respectable positions in the league and made 49 league appearances for Celtic. His contributions caught the eye of bigger clubs around South Africa as he suddenly outgrew at Celtic. During the end of the 2011-12 season. Mathoho was already linked to Mamelodi Sundowns FC, Kaizer Chiefs FC and Orlando Pirates. The tug of war over Eric's signature continued during the 2012-13 preseason. He signed for Kaizer Chiefs, on a reported fee on R5 million. Thus move was reported to have been Mathoho's choice as he chose "Amakhosi" over rivals Mamelodi Sundowns who had offered more money for him. He was given jersey number 3, a jersey which was worn by Thomas Sweswe previously.

International career

He made his debut for South Africa on 14 May 2011 versus Tanzania in an international friendly.[1]
