Eric J. Barron is the President of Florida State University and a former Director of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado (USA). He previously served as Dean of the Jackson School of Geosciences at the University of Texas at Austin, where he held the Jackson Chair in Earth System Science. He is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and has served as chair of numerous National Science Foundation, NASA, and United States National Research Council (NRC) committees and panels, including the NRC Climate Research Committee, the NRC Board on Atmospheric Sciences and Climate, and NASA's Earth Observing System Science Executive Committee. He also was dean of the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences and professor of geosciences at the Pennsylvania State University. On December 8, 2009 he was named the new President of Florida State University, where he earned his undergraduate degree.[1]

Education

Barron holds a B.S. in geology from Florida State University (1973) and a master's degree (1976) and Ph.D. in oceanography from the University of Miami (1980).[2]
