Enzo Majorca is a free diver, holding several world records. He was born June 21, 1931, in Syracuse.

Biography

Enzo Majorca has learned to swim to 4 years and soon began to dive, although, according to his own confession, he always had a great fear of the sea. One day, however, a doctor friend showed him an article which talked about a new depth record to -41 meters ripped Raimondo Bucher by Ennio Falco and Alberto Novelli (samples of underwater hunting). It's the summer of 1956 and Mallorca remains strongly influenced by that company. After a brief reflection, he decided to enter into competition with those great for freediving and is committed to the utmost to snatch the title of the man who went deeper into the depths of the sea. Enzo MajorcaIn 1960 his dream crown touching -45 meters and beating the Brazilian Amerigo Santarelli, who, in September of the same year, he reclaims the title reaching -46 meters, the record did not last long because as early as November Enzo reaches -49 meters. It is the beginning of a great era that will see him on the scene for 16 years, until 1976, the year in which abandons the apnea. On 22 September 1974, in the waters of the Bay of Ieranto on the Sorrento coast, Majorca attempted to establish a new world record for free diving at altitude of 90 meters, for the first time in the history of RAI such an event was televised live. After long preparations, Majorca finally began the descent down the steel cable bumping to even twenty feet deep against Enzo Bottesini, an expert scuba diver and instructor, a former champion of the TV game show Jeopardy, and sent the RAI for the occasion. Resurfaced angry, let out a string of expletives quite strong, many of which were clearly audible to the television audience before the director could intervene by turning off the audio connection. Among them also a blasphemy that cost him a ban on television for many years [1]. In 1988, for their daughters Patrizia and Rossana (both famous in the world for a number of world records in free diving), returns to apnea to reach its last record of -101 meters. During his career, Mallorca has had some rivals historians : the largest was the Brazilian Amerigo Santarelli (retired in 1963), then Teteke Williams, Robert Croft and Jacques Mayol. From 1994 to 1996, he was senator in the lists of the National Alliance. [2]It is a vegetarian. [3] In this regard, he explained in an interview how he left the spear fishing :" It all happened suddenly. I was immersed in a dry not far from the boss that reaching out to the open sea, to the south the bay of Syracuse. That morning I happened to harpooning a grouper. A grouper robust, combative. Broke out at the bottom a real titanic struggle between the grouper which claimed to save his life and me pretending to take it away. The grouper was caught in a cavity between two walls, trying to realize his position ran my right hand down her belly. His heart was pounding terror, mad with fear. And with that pulsing of blood I realized that I was killing a living being. Since then my speargun lies like a wreck, an archaeological dusty in the basement of my house. It was in 1967. [4] »On television, he has collaborated with Lineablu, RAI program, from 2000 to 2002.
