This is an independent (private) school located in the Jumeirah 3 residential area, adjacent to Sheikh Zayed Road, opposite the new Oasis Centre. The school currently has approximately 700 students in the secondary school and around 300 students in the primary school. The primary school opened in 2004. The school is led by Headteacher Allan Forbes, who has been head since September 2005 and a member of staff since 1996. First preference to prospective applicants for offers is to passport holders of the United Kingdom.

History

The secondary school was opened in 1992, owing to a need to establish more quality secondary schools following the British curriculum in Dubai. The opening of the primary school was in 2004, widely noted in Dubai for its striking use of a mixture of colours on the building facade.

The current premises in Jumeirah 3 is purpose built, and houses swimming facilities, a gym, auditorium, libraries, football field, basketball courts, canteen, and a sixth form common room located in the building of the Primary School.

Facilities for primary and secondary school are separated.

The latest report by the independent Dubai Schools Inspection Bureau awarded the school that second-highest status of 'Good'.

Fee Structure

Each year, the fees are revised to reflect macroeconomic trends in inflation. The fee structure for the entire 2012/13 academic year is as follows:

  • Foundation Stage 1: AED 23,638 per year
  • Foundation Stage 2 - Year 5: AED 27,275 per year
  • Year 6: AED 29,093 per year
  • Year 7 to Year 9: AED 44,329 per year
  • Year 10 and Year 11: AED 48,091 per year
  • Year 12 and Year 13: AED 53,107 per year

The average GBP to AED rate for 2012 is 1 GBP = 6 AED.

Dubai Rugby 7's

Each year, the English College participates in the annual Dubai Rugby Sevens, by providing the event with ball boys and ball girls. Students in all years (Year 7 to Year 13) are allowed and often encouraged to partake in this exciting event. The College enters the U18 section of this prestigious event and has achieved success in recent years including an excellent victory in the final of 2008, a game which was played in front of 50,000 people. In 2011, the first U18 Girls' competition was introduced which The English College team won beating Dubai Exiles in a very exciting final.
