Emanuel Sebastián Vargas Torus (born 13 February 1988) is a Chilean footballer that currently plays for the Chilean Primera División club Deportes Iquique as goalkeeper. His father Sergio Vargas.

Club career

Universidad de Chile

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1988, and also son of the famous goalkeeper Sergio Bernabé Vargas, who in that moment played for Argentine Primera División powerhouse Independiente, he moved to Chile at very young age, when his father signed a contract with Universidad de Chile in 1994, one of the most biggest clubs of the country. Emanuel began his career at the youth ranks of the same club of Sergio, in where his father played and was an idol. In January 2006, was promoted to the first adult team of Universidad de Chile by the coach Gustavo Huerta, but not had continuity with the keepers Miguel Pinto and the Bolivian international player José Carlo Fernández.

After season as the third-choice goalkeeper of the club, Vargas was loaned to Iberia Los Ángeles of the Chilean Tercera División in June 2008, returning in January of the next year and remaining one semester, in where he won the 2009 Clausura Tournament with the coach Sergio Markarián, being Emanuel's first professional honour. After the departure of Markarián and the arrival of José Basualdo, he was not considered by the coach and was loaned to Lota Schwager. He debuted for Lota in a 1–0 defeat with Colo-Colo, a Chilean powerhouse and archi-rival of Universidad de Chile. Emanuel played very well in that game, in where saved to his team of loss in the score for more goals. After another semester in Universidad de Chile the next season, in where also the team reached the 2010 Copa Libertadores semifinals, was not considered by Gerardo Pelusso and again was loaned, now to the amateur club Sportverein Jugendland in where his father is coach. In December of that year, Vargas finished his contract with Universidad de Chile, because the lack opportunities, now with keepers like Jhonny Herrera and the Uruguayan Esteban Conde.

Cobresal

In January 2011, he signed a contract with Cobresal as back-up of the Uruguayan goalkeeper Rodolfo Martín Ferrando. On 17 April, he debuted for the club in the copper derby against Cobreloa, in where received one goal with Patricio Schwob in the 29th minute, despite of the score, he played a good game. After an Apertura Tournament with little action, he finished the season as the first choice goalkeeper of the club. When Ferrando left the club, was signed Ezequiel Medrán as the player that will replace to Ferrando as the first choice keeper of the club.

In his first game at the 2012 season, he produced a man-of-the-match performance in a 1–1 draw with Universidad de Concepción, curiously replacing to Medrán in the 17th minute. His performances received several praises for his good saves, despite of the two last matches after of his first in the year, lossing 4–1 and 3–1, respectively with Unión La Calera and his old club Club Universidad de Chile.
