Elpídio Pereira da Silva Filho (born 19 July 1975), known as Silva, is a Brazilian retired footballer.

A striker, his main traits were striking positioning and heading, and he spent most of his professional career in Portugal, namely representing Boavista, and amassing top division totals of 187 games and 63 goals over the course of eight seasons.

Club career

Born in Campina Grande, Paraíba, Silva started his professional career with Clube Atlético Mineiro but quickly moved overseas, joining J. League club Kashiwa Reysol. After just one season he signed with Portugal's Sporting Clube de Braga, where he remained for two seasons.

Silva's most productive period, however, was lived with Portuguese League fellow side Boavista FC. With the Porto club he was instrumental in the 2001 league conquest (Boavista's only), namely scoring in the decisive last match, a 3–0 home win against C.D. Aves.[1]

In the subsequent UEFA Champions League Silva scored in a 1–1 draw at Liverpool,[2] also finding the net in the second match between the two teams, with the same result.[3] In Boavista's UEFA Cup semifinal run the following season, he labelled Celtic a "one-man team" prior to the sides' meeting in the competition's semifinals;[4] the Scottish won it 2–1 on aggregate, with Swede Henrik Larsson – also a target in Silva's tirade – scoring the decisive goal in Porto.[5]

A move to country powerhouse Sporting Clube de Portugal ensued but, barred by newly-signed compatriot Liédson, Silva received few opportunities to shine, although he did net six league goals in his debut season, also being loaned to Vitória de Guimarães in between.

Released by the Lisbon outfit in January 2006, he subsequently represented Derby County[6]– where he did not appear due to fitness problems – Sport Club Corinthians Alagoano, Suwon Samsung Bluewings and Alki Larnaca FC. In January 2009, he moved to fellow Cypriot First Division side AEK Larnaca FC.
