Elmer Torres Espiritu (born November 23, 1985) is a Filipino professional basketball player who plays for Barako Bull Energy Cola in the Philippine Basketball Association.[1] He played five seasons for the University of the East Red Warriors in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines from 2005 to 2009. He captained the Warriors team that finished runner-up to the Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles in the 2009 season, where he averaged 13.9 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game while bagging two with the Highlight Player of the Year and the Defensive Player trophies.[2]

Alaska Aces

He was selected by the Alaska Aces as 4th pick overall in the 2010 PBA Draft and only averaging 4.22 minutes per game, 0.56 points per game, and 0.33 in his only 9 games in the Alaska Aces.[1]

Air21 Express

On May 15, 2011, Air21 Express traded Wesley Gonzales to the Alaska Aces for Elmer Espiritu for the 36th Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governor’s Cup after the Express and the Alaska Aces formally agreed in a trade.

The Express acquired the 36th season’s fourth overall pick 6’4 Espiritu from the Aces who received 6’3 veteran wingman Wesley Gonzales in return, according to Air21 mentor Bong Ramos.

Ramos said both teams have benefited in the trade since Espiritu is known in playing open running type of game while the seven-year pro Gonzales is also capable of hitting consistently from the perimeter and three-point line.

“We are very excited to have Elmer (Espiritu) in our roster in the coming conference. He is very athletic and good defender for the No. 3 position which we need,” said Ramos. “I’m confident he can maximize his talent here in our team.”

Espiritu, a former University of the East forward, is defensive-minded player although his talent was not often utilize during his first two conferences in Alaska, a team known to its effective system and discipline. He stayed most of the time in the bench.[3]

Brgy Ginebra

Ginebra, will receive Elmer Espiritu plus PBA Draft 2013 1st Round Pick from Air21. This is a good trade for Ginebra. Not only will they get a chance to get a new player in the 2013 PBA Draft, they will also get a great wing defender in the person of Elmer Espiritu. He almost averaged 5 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 block per game for Air 21 in the last Season of the PBA. He averaged 18 minutes of playing time per game for Air21 last Season.
