Elis James (born 3 November 1980) is a Welsh comedian, from Carmarthen but later based in Cardiff. He is bilingual in English and Welsh and has performed in both languages.[1]

James began his comedy career in 2005.[2] He won the Best Comedy prize at the National Student Radio Awards in 2006.[3]

James supported Rhod Gilbert on his national tour, Rhod Gilbert and the Award-Winning Mince Pie. Occasionally he fills in on The Rhod Gilbert Show, which airs on BBC Radio Wales, when either of the regular hosts - Gilbert or Chris Corcoran - are unavailable.[4]

In 2008/09 James regularly performed in Chris Corcoran's Committee Meeting. He played caretaker of the club, Rex Jones, a post-Marxist, health and safety obsessed old man. He later starred in Social Club FM, a spin-off of the show (initially broadcast in August 2011) for BBC Radio Wales, playing the same character.[5] In 2013, The Committee was part of BBC Three's "Comedy Feeds", a series of comedy television pilots available exclusively via the BBC iPlayer.[6] The pilot starred James and Corcoran and featured guest Colin Baker.

James has been a regular at the Edinburgh Fringe, drawing full houses in 2011 and 2012. He also presented the S4C music television program Bandit in its early days [7] and has appeared in segments of Hwb, S4C's Welsh learners programme.[8]

James is widely credited with having been the person responsible for introducing the mango to Carmarthen.

James is in a relationship with actress, comedian and musician Isy Suttie.[9] The couple live in London.[10]
