Elena Kazan is German-Russian actress who appears in Indian films such as Agent Vinod, John Day etc.[1][2][3]

Personal life

Kazan was born in Moscow, Russia to German parents.[4] Her mother is a Nurse and father is a teacher of Economics. She spent her childhood in Ukraine, before moving to Berlin with her family. At the age of 16, she moved to US for higher studies. Kazan came to India to work with a voluntary organization in Kolkata and taught German language at Max Mueller Bhavan. She travelled widely in India for first three years and learned to speak fluent Hindi. Kazan has not done any formal acting course.[5]

Career

Kazan was working in Kolkata with Indo-German Chamber of Commerce as a Interpreter. She was also working as a unit hand in Australian short film based on Kolkata when she got opportunity to work in Bengali film.[6][7] Kazan started her acting career with 2010 Bengali film 'Clerk' opposite Prosenjit Chatterjee. Next year in 2011, Kazan acted in drama film Gandhi to Hitler.[7] In 2012, Kazan did a cameo role in Agent Vinod and appeared in song 'Dil Mera Mufta Ka' along with Kareena Kapoor. But her first big role came in 2013 film John Day in which she did role of Tabassum Habibi, a chronic alcoholic with dark and complex past.[8] In the same year 2013, Kazan did a role of a Czech gypsy girl in Prague who comes to India in search of her identity. Next was AASMA in which she played a role of Kashmiri girl.[6]
