Eleanor Davis is an American cartoonist and illustrator who creates comic works and other art for both adolescent and adult audiences.

Biography

Eleanor Davis was raised in Tucson, Arizona by comic enthusiast parents who exposed her to stories and styles such as Little Lulu, Crazy Cat, Little Nemo and the Kinder Kids. She attended Kino School from elementary school until she graduated from high school. It wasn't until high school, when she was introduced to the zine/mini-comics world of Alternative Comics by classmates, that she started to draw comics seriously. In high school she began to self-publish her own comic and soon after decided to attend Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia to study sequential art. Eleanor's work began to get noticed for her original handmade die-cuts and coloring but was further helped by her diligent production of mini-comics, attending comic conventions, and creating a website for her work. Approached by numerous publishers interested in her comics, Eleanor has a contributed work to the anthologies MOME and Best American Comics. She has also published two children's books, The Secret Science Alliance and the Copycat Crook and Stinky, both children's graphic novels. Currently living and working in Athens, Georgia with fellow cartoonist and husband, Drew Weing, Eleanor is continuing to produce comics, mini-comics, illustrations and other works of art, sequential and narrative, most of which can be accessed through Eleanor and Drew's comic company Little House Comics.

Eleanor, along with her husband, Drew, also teaches comic book classes at the University of Georgia during the summer (2009–2010) to students who wish to become comic book artists in the future.

Works

Mostly a self-publisher, Eleanor has produced many comics on her own, including The Beast Mother among others. Outside of her numerous self-published comics, Eleanor's work, such as her short story Seven Sacks has been included in Fantagraphics' anthology MOME as well as Houghton Mifflin's Best American Comics in 2008. The Secret Science Alliance and the Copycat Crook published by Bloomsbury Children's in 2009, was a collaborative book created with husband Drew, who did the inking to Eleanor's illustrations for the book. Her easy-reader book, Stinky was published in 2008 by Françoise Mouly's Toon Books. The book won her an ALA Giesel Honor Award in 2009, and she was named one of Print magazine's New Visual Artists. Eleanor is currently working on another collaborative novel with Drew as well as her own comics.
