Ekushey Padak (Bengali: একুশে পদক) is one of the highest civilian awards in Bangladesh, introduced in memory of the martyrs of the Language Movement of 1952 (Bengali: বাংলা ভাষা আন্দোলন) that took place on February 21, 1952.[1]
The award consists of 100,000 Taka, an 18 carat gold medal weighing 3 tolas and a certificate of honour.[1] The medal was designed by the artist Nitun Kundu.[2] The amount of the cash reward was originally taka 25 thousand, but it was subsequently increased to taka 100 thousand. Ministry of Cultural Affairs administers the Padak.
