Egra subdivision is a subdivision of the Purba Medinipur district in the state of West Bengal, India. It consists of Egra municipality and six community development blocks: Bhagawanpur–I, Bhagawanpur–II, Egra–I, Egra–II, Pataspur–I and Pataspur–II. The six blocks contain 51 gram panchayats. The subdivision has its headquarters at Egra.

Area

Apart from the Egra municipality, the subdivision contains rural areas of 51 gram panchayats under six community development blocks: Bhagawanpur–I, Bhagawanpur–II, Egra–I, Egra–II, Pataspur–I and Pataspur–II.^[1] There is no urban area under these six blocks.^[2]

Blocks

Bhagawanpur–I block

Rural area under Bhagawanpur–I block consists of ten gram panchayats, viz. Benodia, Gurgram, Kotbarh, Shimulia, Bhagwanpur, Kajlagarh, Mahammadpur–I, Bivisanpur, Kakra and Mahammadpur–II.^[1] Bhagawanpur police station serves this block.^[3] Headquarters of this block is in Kajlagarh.^[4]

Bhagawanpur–II block

Rural area under Bhagawanpur–II block consists of nine gram panchayats, viz. Arjunnagar, Garbari–I, Jukhia, Baroj, Garbari–II, Mugberia, Basudevberia, Itaberia and Radhapur.^[1] Bhupatinagar police station serves this block.^[3] Headquarters of this block is in Bhupatinagar.^[4]

Egra–I block

Rural area under Egra–I block consists of eight gram panchayats, viz. Barida, Jumki, Rishi Bankimchandra, Chatri, Kasba–Egra, Jerthan, Panchrol and Saharha.^[1] Egra police station serves this block.^[3] Headquarters of this block is in Egra.^[4]

Egra–II block

Rural area under Egra–II block consists of eight gram panchayats, viz. Basudevpur, Bibekananda, Dubda, Paniparul, Bathuari, Deshbandhu, Manjusree and Sarbaday.^[1] Egra police station serves this block.^[3] Headquarters of this block is in Balighai.^[4]

Patashpur–I block

Rural area under Patashpur –I block consists of nine gram panchayats, viz. Amarshi–I, Brajalalpur, Gokulpur, Amarshi–II, Chistipur–I, Gopalpur, Barhat, Chistipur–II and Naipur.^[1] Pataspur police station serves this block.^[3] Headquarters of this block is in Amarshi.^[4]

Pataspur–II block

Rural area under Pataspur–II block consists of seven gram panchayats, viz. Argoyal, Mathura, Pataspur, Sreerampur, Khargram, Panchet and South Khanda.^[1] Pataspur police station serves this block.^[3] Headquarters of this block is in Pratamdighi.^[4]

Legislative segments

As per order of the Delimitation Commission in respect of the delimitation of constituencies in West Bengal:^[5]

• The area under the Egra municipality, the Egra–I block, and seven gram panchayats under the Egra–II block — Basudevpur, Bibekananda, Deshbandhu, Dubda, Manjusree, Paniparul and Sarbaday — will together form the Egra assembly constituency of West Bengal.
• The gram panchayat of Bathuari under the Egra–II block will be part of the area defining the Contai Uttar assembly constituency.
• Six gram panchayats under the Bhagawanpur–I block — Benodia, Bivisanpur, Gurgram, Kakra, Mahammadpur–I and Mahammadpur–II — will be part of the Chandipur assembly constituency.
• The other four gram panchayats under the Bhagawanpur–I block, viz. Kotbarh, Shimulia, Bhagwanpur and Kajlagarh, and the gram panchayats of Argoyal and Mathura under the Pataspur–II block, along with seven gram panchayats under the Bhagawanpur–II block — Arjunnagar, Basudevberia, Baroj, Itaberia, Jukhia, Mugberia and Radhapur — will form the Bhagabanpur assembly constituency.
• The other five gram panchayats under the Pataspur–II block — Pataspur, Sreerampur, Khar gram Panchet and South Khanda — and the area under the Pataspur–I block will together form the Patashpur assembly constituency.
• The gram panchayats of Garbari–I and Garbari–II under the Bhagawanpur–II block will be part of the area defining the Khejuri assembly constituency.
• The Khejuri constituency will be reserved for Scheduled castes (SC) candidates.
• The constituencies of Chandipur, Patashpur, Kanthi Uttar, Bhagabanpur and Khejuri will be assembly segments of the Kanthi (Lok Sabha constituency).
• The Egra assembly constituency will be part of the area defining the domain of Medinipur (Lok Sabha constituency).
