Egidio Raúl Arévalo Ríos (Spanish pronunciation: [eˈxiðjo aˈɾeβalo ˈri.os]), also known as Egidio Arévalo or Arévalo Rios (born January 1, 1982), is a Uruguayan footballer who plays for Morelia in Liga MX on loan from Tigres de la UANL.[2]

Club career

Nicknamed El Cacha[3] or El pequeño gigante,[4] a product of the Paysandú Bella Vista youth team, Arévalo played for Paysandú Bella Vista, Bella Vista, Peñarol, Monterrey, Danubio, San Luis, Botafogo and Club Tijuana.[5]

On July 23, 2012, after weeks of speculation, it was announced he had signed a three-year contract with Serie A club Palermo.[6]

On August 9, 2013 Arévalo was loaned to Chicago Fire for the remainder of the 2013 MLS season.[7] On August 14, 2013 Chicago Fire announced they signed Arévalo Ríos outright.[8]

He was not retained following the season.[9] On December 2013, Arévalo was bought by Mexican outfit Tigres de la UANL, and was loaned to Monarcas Morelia for six months.[10]

International career

Arevalo played a total of 7 games at the 2010 FIFA World Cup and is a strong defensive midfielder.

In 2011, he won the Copa América in Argentina.

He was chosen by Óscar Tabárez as one of the three over aged players for the London 2012 Olympics Uruguayan squad.[11] He was chosen captain of the national team.[12]
