Eduardo Maruri
Eduardo Maruri Miranda (born September 6, 1966, Guayaquil, Ecuador) is an entrepreneur[1] and politician.
Eduardo Maruri earned a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree from Eastern Michigan University in 1986 and a Certificate in Communications degree from Harvard University in 1989.
In 1992 he and his father Jimmy Maruri, former President of McCann Erickson[2] Ecuador, founded Maruri Publicidad[3] an advertising agency in Ecuador, affiliated with the WPP Group. Maruri also founded DM3,[4] a sports marketing company specializing in planning and marketing sports events such as the Guayaquil Marathon.
In May 2004, aged 37, he won the elections of President of the Guayaquil Chamber of Commerce[5] with 40% of the votes. In 2006 he was elected President of the Ecuadorian Federation of Chambers of Commerce until February 2007.
In 2003 he was responsible for the visits to Ecuador of President Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, Mikhail Gorbachev, José María Aznar, Vice President Al Gore, Anna Kournikova, Rigoberta Menchú, among others.[6]
He is the president of A New Option (UNO),[7] a private non-profit organization and political party.[8] On September 30, 2007 Maruri was elected Assembly Member[9] for the Guayas Province for the Ecuadorian Constituent Assembly.[10]Leaders magazine included him among the six most respected non-Ecuadorian businesspeople.[11]

Barcelona Sporting Club
He was elected President of the Barcelona Sporting Club soccer team from Guayaquil for the 2007-2011 period.[12] In the 2008 season Maruri led the team to a 5th place in the Ecuadorian Serie A. In the 2009 season was the worst of all, lots of wrong decisions and lack of leadership from Maruri, Barcelona barely escaped a relegation to the Ecuadorian Serie B, which would have been the clubs first relegation in history.[13] In the 2010 season, Maruri led the team to a berth in Copa Sudamericana, but where eliminated in the second round and a 4th overall in the Ecuadorian Serie A.
Do to the lack of an Ecuadorian Serie A title and after Maruri announced Barcelona's total debt of more than 17 million, fans started to create Facebook, Twitter pages and writing banners with "LARGATE MARURI"(English:Leave Maruri) and bringing it to Barcelona's home stadium, Estadio Monumental.[14] In December 22, 2010 Maruri resigned the presidency of Barcelona after a surprise press conference alongside his family and fellow friends. Maruri stated that he was leaving Barcelona do to "Family issues", then Maruri started crying and said,"We were born to be champions, I'm not the man who abandons his ship in a horrible thunderstorm and is about to be sunken underwater, I know better days will come for Barcelona".[15]
Accusations Of corruption
During Maruri's term as president, he has been accused of corruption and the responsible of the huge debt that Barcelona has. On January 31, 2011 he spoke with Radio Tarqui and denies any accusations of corruption during his term as president.[16] On August 16, 2011, the new president of Barcelona, Antonio Noboa announced the hiring of PKF, which is a firm of auditors that will do a Forensic audit on Maruri and Harb's term as president.[17]
