Edgar Basel (November 1, 1930 in Mannheim — September 7, 1977) was a boxer from Germany, who won the silver medal in the flyweight division ( 51 kg) at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki.

Amateur career

Basel had an outstanding amateur career. He was a five time German amateur flyweight champion (1951-1952, 1954-1956), and in 1955 he won the European Championship in Berlin (West).

  • 1952 Silver medalist as a Flyweight at Helsinki Olympics. Results were:
    • Defeated Henryk Kukier (Poland) PTS (3-0)
    • Defeated Thorbjoern Clausen (Norway) KO-3
    • Defeated Anatoli Bulakov (Soviet Union) PTS (2-1)
    • Lost to Nathan Eugene Brooks (USA) PTS (0-3)
  • 1956 competed as a Flyweight at the Melbourne Olympics. Result was:
    • Lost to Vladimir Stolnikov (Soviet Union) PTS
