Eduardus Hermannus Theresia Maria (Ed) Nijpels (born April 1, 1950 in Den Helder) is a Dutch CEO and former politician of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD).

Nijpels performed a lot of political positions. He was Chairman of the Youth Organisation Freedom and Democracy (JOVD), a councillor in Bergen op Zoom, an MP from 1977 to 1986 and from 1989 to 1990, VVD Party leader from 1982 to 1986, Minister of Housing, Spatial Planning and Environment from 1986 to 1989, mayor of Breda from 1990 to 1995, and Queen's Commissioner from Friesland from 1999 to 2008.

Nijpels also performed many other positions. Among others he was a member of the supervisory board of former DSB Bank from 2004 to 2009 and Chairman of pension fund ABP from 2009 to 2010. Nowadays he is Chairman of NLingenieurs and a member of the board of employers' federation VNO-NCW.

Nijpels is a big fan of Spike and Suzy and has a great collection of these Flemish comics.[1]
