Echeneis

An echeneis is a legendary creature described in medieval bestiaries. It is a described as a fish that is half a foot in length. It is said to latch on to ships, holding them back. They are said to be found in the Indian Ocean. The modern version of this fish is considered to be the remora, which has been written about for millennia as having the ability to attach itself to ships and stop their movement.
