  • Puerto Rico Two earthquakes a 5.1 and a 5.3 strike the west coast of Puerto Rico around 2:08 am causing 1 dead(by heart attack) and a massive tsunami fear in the towns of Mayaguez,Anasco and Aguada and Damage on some homes in Mayaguez they were 11.222 aftershock and the strongest was a 4.1 that same day of December 17,the tremors cause a wide tsunami fear in most of the island but it was Mayaguez that until morning people were in high ground waiting for emergency officials.The 5.3 was the strongest earthquake in mercalli intensity since 1918 reaching an intesity of 7 in some places.[182]
  • Malta A magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck west of Gozo, Maltese Islands on December 18. This was the fourth earthquake recorded in Malta this year after the 3 quakes which struck Malta last April.[182]
  • New Zealand A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck east of Christchurch on December 23. This was followed by a magnitude 5.9 earthquake later in the afternoon.[183]
  • Tonga A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck near Hihifo, Tonga on December 26.[184]
  • Russia A magnitude 6.6 earthquake struck near Kyzyl, Russia on December 27.[185]
  • United States A magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck Youngstown, urban area Ohio on December 31.[186]
