Earl Anderson Bamber[1] (born 9 July 1990 in Wanganui, New Zealand) is a motor racing driver and commentator from New Zealand.

Career

As a young rookie driver Bamber demonstrated race driving talent when progressing through karts and minor single seater series, and in 2008 was ranked sixth highest future star in the world by the internationally recognised website driverdb.com.[2]

Bamber was the 2006 Formula BMW Asia champion,[3] and in 2008, also won the Imola round of the European Formula Masters series.[4]

Bamber drove for A1 Team New Zealand in the opening round of the 2008–09 A1 Grand Prix season after impressing the team during rookie seasons in 2007–08 and during pre-season testing with the new Powered by Ferrari car.[5] He was second in the sprint race at Circuit Park Zandvoort behind Team Malaysia,[6] and third in the feature race behind Team France and Team Malaysia.[7]

Bamber was a commentator at the 2009 Donington Superleague Formula round.

In 2010, among other driving outings, he raced in the Toyota Racing Series for Triple X Motorsport car. He claimed six victories, including the prestigious New Zealand Grand Prix held at Manfeild as he finished runner-up in the championship for a second time, three points behind Mitch Evans.

He rejoined the Superleague Formula commentating team from the start of the 2010 season.

In 2013 Bamber competed in Porsche Carrera Cup Asia and on his first attempt Bamber managed to clinch the title from Martin Ragginger by 19 points. Earl also took part in the Hungary round of the 2013 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup finishing 15th. Through winning the Asian leg of Porsche's one make series Bamber had the opportunity with the winner from the other Carrera Cup's to take part in testing the new 991 Porsche Cup Car as well as a variety of other tests including car feedback, media training as well as fitness tests with the winner receiving 200,000 Euro to compete in next years Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.
