Earl Douglas Averill, Jr. (September 9, 1931 in Cleveland, Ohio), is a former professional baseball player who played catcher in the Major Leagues from 1956 to 1963. He played for the Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Angels, Philadelphia Phillies, and Cleveland Indians. Averill shares with Piggy Ward the MLB record for the most consecutive plate appearances reaching a base - 17.[1]
Personal
His father, Earl Averill, is enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
