E-segment

E-segment (or executive cars) is defined by European Commission[1] as the fifth segment in European market car classification. It approximately corresponds to Full-size car and Mid-size luxury car segment in North America, or Executive car in British English acceptation.

Those cars are usually denoted for their length (equal or above 5,000 mm) and the luxury setup.

European Market

Current E-segment offer in Europe is limited to only 14 models, out of which one (Saab 9-5) is already out of production. Segment is dominated by the three major German brands with the BMW 5 Series, the Mercedes E Class plus its coupé version Mercedes CLS, and the Audi A6 and its coupé version Audi A7.[2]

Significant volumes also for other couple of models: the Volvo V70 and the Jaguar XF; other than those, the other models are occupying minor niches.

The Volskswagen CC is the longer and coupé version of the Volkswagen Passat.

A mention is due for the VW Phaeton, which had never a great success in term of sales but still on the market, and the tentative of Fiat Group to re-badge the Chrysler 300 ans Lancia Thema in Europe, with scarce success.
